Secure Beginnings uses absolutely no harsh chemicals or toxins. The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress does not contain the traditional “fill” of a conventional or organic crib mattress; therefore, no chemicals are needed to make this revolutionary crib mattress water-proof. Also, extensive research and testing has led us to natural fire retardant fibers to help protect your little one without compromising health benefits. We use low-impact dyes. Our products are not infused with any anti-microbials, instead we make them quick drying and washable.
• Conventional crib mattresses are usually encased in plastic to make them water-proof. The "vinyl" surface typically used in baby mattresses is actually polyvinyl chloride (also known as PVC). Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is made from vinyl chloride, which is a combination of petroleum (ethylene) and chlorine. This particular plastic is a known toxin. Organic mattresses use nano-coatings to make their “natural fiber” covers water-proof. Nano-coating is infused or sprayed on fabrics to make them water-proof. Fabrics treated with nano-coating will cause the water to actually pool on the surface which can be dangerous to a sleeping infant. These nano-coating contain monomers which is a bonding agent that is toxic. The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress does not have the traditional “fill” of traditionally designed crib mattress; therefore, there is no reason to create a water barrier.
• Many traditional crib mattresses are treated with fire retardants—chemicals shown to be harmful to humans. Common fire retardants include polybrominated diphenyl ethers, or PBDEs. PentaBDE The most common chemical fire retardant used to made polyurethane foam flame retardant, is a toxin associated with hyperactivity and neuro-behavioral alterations. PentaBDE is not bound to the foam, and leaches out into the surrounding air. It’s been banned in Europe for many years and in California since 2006. These chemicals have been linked to learning disabilities and cancers in humans and should be avoided when selecting a crib mattress. The most common chemicals used to make cotton and organic fiber filled mattress, including latex, flame resistant is to add Pesticides and boric acid. The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress does not contain any of these harmful chemicals because it does not contain the fiber fill of traditionally constructed crib mattresses. The unique design of the Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress is what makes it flame resistant; no chemicals are required.
EPA has determined that infants up to age two are, on average, ten times more vulnerable to carcinogenic chemicals than adults, and for some cancer causing agents are up to 65 times more vulnerable.
